Let’s start off this room update by saying – we are by no means finished with our bedroom. Since our first apartment together, our shared bedroom has always been thoughtfully constructed with sanctuary and sleep in mind. With our not-so-recent move from the city to the desert, our aspirations for our home held the idea of space, and the specific designation of it, higher than any other benefit of our move. So how does this bedroom fit into our new home, and how are we furnishing it?
So how does this bedroom fit into our new home, and how are we furnishing it?
Unlike our last two homes together, our bedroom is an entirely private suite. With an attached bathroom and its own set of glass doors that offer an escape to our backyard, it is effortless to lock the door and contain ourselves within our own private world. Additions like our projector and LED underbed lighting create a day-to-night transformation that complements a restorative evening eating dinner in bed. Or, as we had yesterday, an overcast day spent recovering from a migraine (in my case) and a root canal (poor Ariana</3).
Chronic illness has unfortunately been a theme of this year, and maybe that’s what drew us to the emphasis of textiles in this space. Feeling terrible is not fun, but there is something comforting about surrounding yourself with swathes of fabric. Even at our healthiest, our velvet tapestry, thick duvet, woven blankets, and sheepskin rug offer a variety of textures that make the space feel luxurious and decorated without being overwhelming.
So at the moment, this is where we’re at! Our next plans include incorporating plants (that brass sconce on our cabinet will one day hold a dangling pathos) and an oversized mirror. We also have our eye on some fun tufted rugs for each of our sides of the bed, and we’d like to incorporate a lava lamp somewhere. We are also playing with the idea of adding curtains over the shutters, so comment below if you have suggestions on that!
Mattress: The Avocado Green Mattress in Queen
The reason we love our Avocado Green Mattress so much is because it is made in Los Angeles with natural materials. Not only is it 100% Organic Certified, but it is affordable and ethically made with a 25-year warranty! As we create this home together, we are emphasizing quality and longevity as we curate pieces for our home, so it was only natural that we chose a mattress that is safe and reliable. We have been sleeping on this mattress for six months now, so we can say with confidence that it is an amazing fit for both of our sleeping styles.
Disclosure: This mattress was gifted to us by Avocado Green Mattress!
