This is our first fall in our new apartment.
Ariana and I had to make the most out of this occasion by going on a fall decor shopping spree. We’ve been excited for the holiday season ever since we moved in, so with September in full swing, we went out to officially decorate our apartment for fall.
Keep one thing in mind: Ariana and I have very different aesthetics for fall decor. Ariana loves anything traditional, while I tend to like more… alternative holiday decor. We were unsure whether we would find anything we would both like, but we ended up finding a lot of pieces worth compromising for. However, before we get into this haul, I want to look back on how we got here.
Our home means a lot to us.
This is our first apartment, so this space is really special to both of us. But what makes it even more special is how we ended up here in the first place.
We were both full-time students when we met. I lived on campus in a dorm, and Ariana lived at home with her family. For the first year of being together, we never really had space for ourselves. Our time was restricted to being out, so we practically lived out of my car when we were together.
We weren’t supposed to end up in this apartment so soon.
I was set to live and work on campus this past summer, and Ariana had no plans to move out at the time. We both thought we wouldn’t get the opportunity to live together until next year. However, my job fell through last minute and I needed a place to live here in LA. With only two weeks left before I would get kicked out of the dorms, we threw ourselves into apartment hunting, and it happened that the only place that accepted me was a one bedroom apartment that was walking distance to Ariana’s parents’ house.
We moved in with only our clothes and a mattress.
At the time of our move in, we had no furniture or food, so our first nights relied on take-out and movies on our laptops. Our internet and refrigerator couldn’t be installed until days after we moved in. Those first days were hectic; Ariana was still living at home, and I had finals for school, so we didn’t have a lot of free time to enjoy our new space.
Soon after I moved in, we both went to visit my parents. During this visit, Ariana found out that she wouldn’t be able to stay at home when we got back to LA. It was a sudden turn of events and we all agreed it would be easiest if she just moved into my new apartment. So when we got back, we picked up more of her clothes, went grocery shopping, and officially got settled into our new home together.
Fast forward four months, we have a full house of furniture, pictures on the walls, and everything a home should have. This summer changed our lives, and this apartment was a big part of that. It gave us the space to work together and create together, and living together has only made our relationship stronger.

Of course, no fall decor would be complete without candles! We stocked up on every kind of apple cinnamon candle we could find for this haul.
I loved these simple, metallic garlands the second I saw them. Obviously, I used them wherever I could. Garlands are always the easiest way to make your whole space look ready for the holidays.
Shopping for fall decor has only made us more excited for Halloween and Christmas, so stay tuned for many more decor hauls to come!
