The spookiest time of the year is here!
I personally LOVE Halloween. I love spooky stuff, dressing up, and holiday-themed desserts. So far this Halloween season, we’ve been enjoying an ongoing marathon of Disney Channel Originals (and other spooky movies) accompanied by lots of snacks. Ariana and I will be spending our second Halloween together this year, so we thought this would be a good time to reflect.
This time last year looked very different for us.
We weren’t officially together yet, but we had been dating for six months and decided to spend the holiday together. After dressing up earlier in the evening, we decided last minute to ditch the party we had planned on going to together. We stripped down to our pjs, got promptly in my college dorm room bed, and spent the rest of the night watching our favorite Halloween movies (including my first time watching Hocus Pocus!).
A lot has changed in a year.
You all know that Ariana and I live together, and this has really changed the way we spend time together. Most of that is good: I love coming home to her every day, and I love how we have a space to work and relax in together. However, one thing we’ve both been missing lately are our dates.
Last Halloween, choosing to stay in over going out felt like a rare luxury. Because I lived at school, we always went out. I also had a lot more money to spend because I lived on-campus. Now, we really have to prioritize both time and money, and this means we usually choose a night in over a night out.
Our relationship is so new, we’re still adjusting to how we face challenges together.
While it feels like we’ve been together forever, I always have to remind myself that we’re still in a fairly new relationship. Almost every challenge thrown our way is a new experience for us as a couple, including how to balance our lives and still make quality time for each other. That’s why, for this Halloween, we made the best out of what we had.
So, we made a bucket list!
We planned out the things we wanted to do most together and stuck to them no matter what. Of course, one of those things was going to a pumpkin patch! Ariana had never been to a pumpkin patch before so this experience was special to us. Luckily, this pumpkin patch is walking distance from our apartment, so we really got to enjoy it stress-free. It was also free, which was necessary this year.
Since this is a confessions post, let’s be honest.
We had originally planned on buying pumpkins from this pumpkin patch, but that is not what happened. We took our pictures, saw their prices, snuck out, and then drove to Vons where they were on sale for 2 for $10. And it was $5 Friday, so we got a dozen doughnuts too! If you’re thinking, “wow, sounds like a win/win”, then you’re right, because it absolutely was.
Still, we didn’t get to do everything we wanted this Halloween season.
Number one on my list of things I didn’t get to do was buy some of those adorable velvet pumpkins from Target. Here’s another confession for you guys, since the day Ariana and I met, Target has been our go-to for cheap or free dates. We never planned this, we just always found ourselves at Target for something and it quickly became our go-to place. We usually grab a coffee from Starbucks and walk around talking and looking at literally everything the store has to offer. What can I say? we love Target.Target is great for Halloween decorations, but it's even better for dates! #target Click To Tweet
Target dates are our favorite dates, but they’re also an important reminder.
Since we started blogging, there’s a lot of influence within the community to do everything, especially around the holidays. It’s easy to get caught up in the idea that we have to have the most extravagant life to have a blog. When we look at other bloggers, it can be hard not to compare your non-existent decor budget to their elaborate holiday set-ups. But we always come back to the reality that we’re just not at that point in our life yet, but that’s okay! That’s another reason why we love Target dates so much. They give us the opportunity to dream and plan together.
By the way, you do not need to have a fancy expensive life to be a blogger.
Create memories in the best way you know how. Snap a couple pics of your holiday decor, expensive or cheap, write about why it makes you happy, and remember to stick to that budget!
